Ragin River Steak CO. , under new ownership, announces new menu, expanded happy hour and brunch

Steeped in history, beckoning the local and regional patron interested in a unique, relaxed dining experience and conveniently located in the heart of Main Street in Historic Independence, the local gem that is Ragin River Steak Co. changed ownership recently. Opened in 2008, the restaurant is now owned by longtime local residents, Bob and Janice Crowson. The opportunity to purchase Ragin River Steak Co. was a welcome one. “ I have lived in a historic home in Independence for 36 years. I raised my family here and care deeply about this community. To have the opportunity to participate in this dynamic local business felt like a good fit for me.”

Since taking ownership of Ragin River Steak Co. in late August , Crowson along with Executive Chef and General Manager, John Simmons have set themselves the task of relaunching the restaurant onto the local and Willamette Valley culinary scene. “Our team has been working very hard to provide the finest in food, service and atmosphere for all our guests, while bringing the restaurant back to its original and unique position as a locally owned and operated steak house.” Pictures of times past adorn the exposed brick walls, and warm and inviting colors invite the diner to relax. While the comfortable dining room and casual, yet upscale, atmosphere remain the same, significant changes have been made to the restaurant’s hours, menu selections and pricing to re-energize the business. The newest offerings include a revamped in-bar happy hour menu, brunch served Saturdays and Sundays, and a broader, more interesting dinner menu.

Original Executive Chef, John Simmons passion, flair and skill culminate in meals with robust flavors, interesting ingredients and generous portions. While the new dinner menu’s offerings continue to emphasize Certified Angus beef, they also include Seafood, Pork, Chicken and Pasta often including local and seasonal produce. New additions include, Duroc pork, “the angus of pork” served with home made mango chutney. The new happy hour selections include crispy calamari and firecracker shrimp. Drink specials are also available in the restaurant bar

Crowson spoke very highly of John Simmons skills in the kitchen and feels the new menu and the return of the original Sous chef, Jesse Shafer, reflects what made Ragin River so popular when it first opened. . As general manager and executive chef, Simmons responsibilities require him to oversee all food production, preside over all activities in the restaurant and manage the brigade in the bustling kitchen. “We feel strongly that we have all the pieces and people in place for an exciting new era for the business.” Simmons said. Combine that with Crowson’s roots in the community, the beautiful, comfortable dining room and everyone at Ragin River is newly energized by this business transition, “I’m learning from them and teaching them some new ways of doing things.” He adds, “Everyone’s excited about the future.”

Does anyone know where Alex Trevino (Original owner) went? Does he still own that little sports B&G on HWY 99W in Monmouth?
