We stopped for a late lunch today. It was our first visit to their new digs in the cavernous venue most recently occupied by Prudence Uncorked. Little has changed in décor or appointments. It’s clean and pleasant with extra seating in the balcony. Painted duct work worms its way across the ceiling high overhead.

We arrived just before 2 PM and were immediately seated by the hostess. One other table was occupied.

 Our server, Tim, was right there with a basket of Bread and menus and took our beverage orders. The food selection looks much the same as in their old location. If there were changes or additions, I didn’t notice them. I looked over their wine list which had a good selection of Italian and domestic west coast vintages.

 Carol’s Iced Tea and my Strawberry Lemonade (which was delicious) arrived promptly. The Garlic Bread seemed to have been sliced and sitting for awhile and was beginning to dry. No Butter or infused Olive Oil was provided with it. I asked Tim to finger test it and he agreed that it should be replaced. I appreciate the challenges of pre-prep. Had we not arrived well past the lunch hour, I doubt if this would have been a problem.

I started with Mista Verde (Mixed Greens) with Red and Yellow Cherry Tomatoes, Julienned Carrots with Balsamic Vinaigrette and crumbles of Bleu Cheese. Excellent! Then I chose Chicken Marsala; Chicken, Mushrooms and Tomatoes in creamy Marsala Sherry Sauce over Linguini with fresh grated Parmesan and garnished with Parsley. The Pasta was al dente and perfectly cooked. The flavors were delicate to the point of near-blandness. I expected it to be a more flavorful. Also, it could have been warmer. When asked, I shared these observations with Tim who accepted the criticism graciously. In fairness, it takes a while to get systems down in a new kitchen.

 She Who Must Be Obeyed had a cup of White Bean and Vegetable Soup. She said it was very good. It was gone before I could wrangle a sample. For her entrée she had Aglio e Olio; Sautéed Garlic Olive Oil, fresh Basil and Chili Flakes on Spaghetti. She loved it and said she could not fault it in any way.

Tim was a very nice young man who spared no effort to make sure our lunch was enjoyable. He kept our beverage glasses brimming and saw to our every need. He was all that a competent server should be.

 With the minor criticisms most likely attributable to the time of day and the newness of the venue, we think Gamberetti’s, in this much more desirable location, will be an even bigger success than it was in its old Fairgrounds Road spot.

We were there their first night, and although there were a few service hiccups (I think our server had a bit of ADD and it wasn't helped by the soda fountain in the prep area not yet working) the food was excellent. We had a caprese salad and I had the vodka tortellini and my wife had the chicken milano. I thought the environment a bit noisy, but people who had been there when it was J. James said it was noisy back then too. I hope they'll be able to capitalize on their two new banquet/group spaces.

We had lunch there last week and it was really good. I had the mac n' cheese lunch special with a Caesar salad. Both were delicious. Mr. B. had the option of ordering many of the dishes with gluten-free pasta. While the exact dish that he chose escapes me, he was very pleased with his choice. The service was prompt and friendly. The bread was fresh. The restaurant was packed inside and out. We will be back for sure.
