With awesome news of a downtown stadium being built, there is also restaurant news. I've been told that much of the space surrounding the exterior of the stadium on State St. will be commercial store front. Perfect for restaurants. David Rosales of La Capitale is a huge baseball fan and will try to get one of the street level spaces for an Italian restaurant. In an email yesterday, he told me that his plans are to have about 20 tables, a bar and access to the stadium lobby. In the lobby, David would be able to serve fans attending ball games. The working title for this new eatery would be Sockaroni. One of the other spaces street side will likely end up going to a national chain. The owner of the local Beer Goggles franchise also has plans for serving both outside and in the stadium. From a patio on the roof of the bar, patrons will get a birds eye view of the field.
There will also be concession stands open when the Emeralds are playing. According to the newspaper article it's still a few years from opening.
Unrelated, but also big news, Word of Mouth is opening a second restaurant in the old Chula Vista building on Liberty downtown. The dining room is about four times bigger than their current spot. With that many tables, the wait time to get in will probably be cut in half. Becky and Steve Mucha say they've got lots of painting to do.

I'm really happy for David. Sounds like a great idea for a restaurant. I've already started buying "E" gear!
ReplyDeleteI wish I could sue you. This was not nice. My heart it broken. With that said a job well done.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like it might bring more night life to downtown. I'm hoping that by having restaurants in and around the stadium, they'll stay open late to feed the post-game crowd.
ReplyDeleteThey're selling "E" hats at Shryocks!
ReplyDeleteThis is awesome. Where do you think Scott's cycle will be going? That's our bike shop.
ReplyDeleteJust curious, but...is this an April Fool's joke?
ReplyDeleteApril Fool's right?
ReplyDeleteI'm smelling April Fools here...
ReplyDeleteLet's see. It's April 1st. HHHHMMMMMMM!
ReplyDeleteAwkward...
ReplyDeleteEven though I am happy for Word-Of-Mouth and their success, I sure hope they don't get too big for their britches. They are an awesome place and I would hate to see them self destruct
ReplyDeleteMy understanding was that the stadium's interior is being designed to incorporate an indoor pool in the off-season...maybe they just anticipate leaks. (Do the beer goggles work underwater?)
ReplyDeleteHA HA April Fool's Salem Man is at it again. Doesn't anyone remember Rocky's Soup and Balls and Beer Goggles from previous posts?
ReplyDeleteApril Fools?1
ReplyDeleteOM, It is also rumored that, with the use of modular freezer elements, they can transform the pool into a rink for Salem’s nascent hockey team, the “Capitol Sticks”. Negotiations are currently underway.
ReplyDeleteSteve wants to name the new place, "nothing rhymes with orange" so maybe we should not paint it. :)
