Keizer Sub Shop

Yesterday, I had the best sub sandwich I've had since...well, since I ate at the Keizer Sub Shop years ago as a teenager. I hadn't thought of the place for years and then I saw a coupon for them on EatSalem's coupon pages. The stars all aligned when I remembered I had an appointment in Keizer the next day. We used to order subs for lunch from the sub shop when I worked in Keizer as a teenager. Everyone would put their order in and someone would make a "sub run". Ahhh, the memories...

So, I had high expectations when I stopped in last night. Right away, I was welcomed by the two young men behind the counter. One of them was a little distracted by something on the TV in the corner, but stopped right away to answer my questions about their subs. I opted for the Turkey and Salami. The atmosphere is clean and bright, but there was no one else eating inside and it was a sunny day, so I decided to take it to go.

There are lots of sandwich options, including all your regular sub styles and a few warm sandwiches as well. This is definitely a deli that specializes in sandwiches as their sides are limited, but I did notice they have daily soups. All their sandwiches come with provolone cheese and an array of veggies and toppings, but you can add extras for no extra cost (avocado is extra). You can also substitute other types of cheese, but I opted for the provolone. I added green peppers to my sandwich and had them hold the pickles. There are two bread options, white or wheat. Their bread is tasty, but their focus hear is on the inside of the sandwich. My order came out just as ordered in a very short time.

While I waited for my sandwich I asked about their hours. Sure enough, they are open until 11 PM everyday except Sundays, when they close at 5. The friendly young man told me that after 9 PM most of their customers are in the back playing video lottery and then told me about their 50 cent beer deal. It's good anytime, on any of their beers as far as I can tell, as long as you buy something.

After I left, I found a sunny spot to eat my sandwich. Wow. Freshly sliced deli meats, fresh veggies, perfect amounts of every flavor. Seriously, this was the best sandwich I've had in a long time. If you don't believe me, go check out their Facebook page. I'm not the only one raving.

End of Dearborn Ave? Isn't that Cummings Ave. that T's into River Rd. at Keizer Town Sq.? - just past the intersection of River Rd. and Cherry Ave....
Dearborn is 4 blocks north.
I used to go to Cummings Elementary - so I'm kinda familiar with the area.

We have been eating subs from Keizer Sub Shop for a LONG time... They have always been fresh and good.. Probably more meat, back a number of years ago, than now...but, that's kind of typical with most places..that have been in business for years and years.. Over the years, we have had a number of times where we ordered a large number of subs for a large gatherings, at work..and always got what we ordered and fresh and ready on-time.. Pretty amazing, as I am sure there have been multiple owners and certainly an ever changing sandwich making crew, over the many years..

Yes, that is Cummings! I'll change it in the post as well. Thanks for catching that for me, Jeff!

Rebekah, Thank you! I had half a “Destroyer” today! Barring convenience issues, I see no reason to visit a chain submarine sandwich place again. The Keizer Sub Shop prices are only about a buck more but you get twice the quality and half again the quantity. I’ve been driving by this place for twenty five years. Your tip turned my wheels in more ways than one! Thanks again.

Excellent, Chuck! I'm so glad it satisfied you! I know you are partial to deli sliced meats, which they seem to use in all their sandwiches. I'm happy to have helped a fellow sandwich lover! :)
