Willamette Burger Co.'s new veggie burger

Willamette Burger is now closed
Whenever I talk to people about all the reasons we like to go to Willamette Burger Co., I find myself craving whatever I last had on their menu.  It's all in the details and care in the product they put on the table in front of you.  The house made buns, aioli, tots, onion rings and sauces.  Oh my word!

So when I read they were debuting their veggie burger, I felt it was my duty to go check it out.  Yup, sacrificing a chance to eat meat for all of you.  Not sure if it had to do with my sacrifice, but N decided he should try something on the menu he's never had before--an Old MacDonald burger, featuring an egg and bacon.

Here's WBC's description of their veggie burger:
"You've been patient long enough...the long awaited veggie patty is here! Handmade in our kitchen from a propriety blend of beans, grains and mushrooms. The patty is completely VEGAN, and topped with caramelized onions, roasted red peppers and our house-made avocado spread. 8.00"

We both ordered a pint of Ninkasi's Believer Double Red Ale and our first ever basket of WBC's onion rings with Adam's Rib barbecue sauce for dipping.  Willamette Burger Co.'s onion rings = heaven covered in batter.

Please keep in mind that this is the first time I've ever ordered a house made veggie burger in a restaurant.  I'll describe it, but not compare it to meat. (I've been told that's not the point.)   The generous patty was fall apart tender and juicy.  The flavors were good, but subtle.  What really made the burger was the house made bun, roasted red pepper and caramelized onion.  I would definitely eat this again, but do see some room for upping the patty flavor just a bit.
I'd love to hear what others think.
Oh for Pete's sake!  Now I'm craving their onion rings!

It looks great! I can't wait to order it -- I love both meat and veggie burgers, and I'm glad to see WBC has added a good veggie burger to the menu. My only suggestion is that they use real leaf lettuce instead of the iceberg lettuce it looks like they are using in the picture. That would make it perfect.

I tried the new veggie burger last week. I really liked it, especially the toppings as you said. My only complaint is the the patty kind of fell apart and completely squished out the sides of the bun of my to go order. So, when I got home and opened it up, I had to plop some back on the bun, and then I ate the rest with a fork. Don't get me wrong, it was still super tasty, but a little more structural integrity wouldn't hurt!

Great news!

And VN: you need a new schtick...it's getting old.

"Structural integrity" is an issue even for the tastiest of veggie burgers. I can't wait to try it.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone! We've had the lettuce discussion internally... maybe we'll post a poll on the blog so you can have a say as well. Structural integrity does come at a price... how about it vegetarians - any suggestions?

You can try frying it and crisping it up a bit...see if it holds together a bit better....make it more falafel like.

It's tasty as it is. Thanks for adding that to the menu.
