That sign is real. The good news is that it's a building that is already built so I can't imagine it will take long for this thing to open. Can we get those Extreme Makeover folks to come by and set up this TJ's in a week? If you are as excited as I am, you can go to the TJ's website and sign up for their Fearless Flyer newsletter. Here's the link. I am especially happy tonight because this is the exact location that I mentioned a few years ago as the ideal location for this thing. Take a look at this old post and this one. Yes, I won at least one bet on that storefront. So how long will the line be on opening day? One more thing, on the "Put Trader Joe's in Salem Oregon" Facebook page, Lisa Stockburger Snively called it first on Sept 6th when she said;
"Is this true??? Trader Joe's is coming to Salem -- location, the long-vacant Albertson's on south Commercial, next to Rite Aid and close to WinCo. Should take about a year for the remodel. Let's hope it's really true this time!!!!"

Thanks to a very reliable source, we've just learned that Salem, Oregon is going to have a Trader Joe's . . . in south Salem where the empty Albertson's building now stands.

ReplyDeleteThere are two kinds of people - those who feel they've arrived already just because they can see the airport out the plane window, and those who know it's not over until the wheels are on the ground. I'm the second type and so refuse to celebrate prematurely, but if we can get a TJ's and a Burgerville in this town we'll be set for life.

ReplyDeleteI'm glad it's not near Life Source. I like the Vista Roth's and Life Source, and I'd hate for business to decline because of TJ. These three grocers are quite different and hopefully will all do fine.

ReplyDeleteWoo hooo! I used to shop at Albertson's when they were there and would love to see the building in use again. And TJs would be perfect!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I can think of at least two wine stores on south commercial that hopefully are not hurt by TJ.

I read this and thought huh..... another over rated chain store.... I have Capitol Market, Roth's, and various other more local options that fit the bill fine. Not sure why this is such a huge deal....

ReplyDeleteI was on my way to drop off some donations at Good Will and when I drove by wrecking crews were taking down the front of the building.
This is too awesome!

ReplyDeleteJust heard (from someone who asked at Lake Oswego store) our TJ's is slated to open in July.
ReplyDeleteI was a bit worried when I went by yesterday and the "Coming Soon" sign was down, but I figured they were just working on the facade.
ReplyDeleteAre there some big challenges with that building? The Corvallis TJ's went up so fast.
