We met for happy hour at Prudence Uncorked, the gals wanting to check back in since they've been open for a while. Since I hadn't been to Prudence before, I took a second to appreciate the redesign of the restaurant, finding it much more open and light. It happened to be a nice day and the bartender told us they were planning to open an outside seating area, taking advantage of the interesting landscape along the creek. I love this idea, Salem seems to be lacking in outside dining spaces and this area is beautiful.
We started with drinks and Prudence Uncorked's drink menu features some very unique drinks. I had a pepper and mango infused vodka with coconut drink, which turned out to be odd, but surprisingly refreshing. The bartender mentioned they had let the peppers infuse too long, making the vodka ultra-spicy. They then married it with the mangoes and coconut to cool it down. My companions ordered the margarita, a chardonnay, Maker's Ginger (which she found delicious) and a peppery beverage which was different but good. I appreciate restaurants that encourage their bartenders to experiment and Prudence Uncorked seems to do this well.
To eat, we ordered the "Best Corn Dog Ever" and the "Briezy Puff and Fruit." As described on their website, the corn dog is an "Andouille sausage wrapped in bacon, fried in Total Domination IPA batter and served with house made pickle relish and cumin ranch." While neither of us thought this was the "Best" corn dog ever, it was quite good and probably would have been better if they hadn't seemed slightly overcooked. The Briezy Puff was quite delicious, but the side of fruit was lacking, with only a quarter of an apple.
Overall, Prudence Uncorked is a nice place for Happy Hour. Their drinks and food are both unique and the environment is enticing. The staff, especially the bartender were very friendly and attentive. I'm looking forward to enjoying their outdoor seating this summer!
