Eat Salem at The Bite and Brew

To Read the latest about The Bite and Brew, click here! is in on the Bite and Brew of Salem 2010! Yup, we've made a verbal commitment to have a booth at the Riverfront Park food festival put on by the Salem Rotary to benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Marion and Polk Counties. The event is July 30, 31 and August 1, 2010. Here's their web page.

Our plan is to have a booth staffed with contributors who will be available to provide advice to event goers about where to eat in Salem. We'll also have T-shirts and prizes to be raffled off. This is still in the early stages of the plan so please comment with any suggestions.

In the past, this site has been less then flattering to The Bite. Mostly because the choice of restaurants has been limited and included chains such as Pizza Hut. The disappointment with past events does not mean we want this thing to fail. The restaurant scene in Salem is quickly getting better with new choices opening all the time. Salem has some momentum and I think the Bite and Brew is the perfect opportunity to highlight the improvements. Maybe, this is a time where the negative perception of Salem dining turns around and we start hearing positive feedback from our visitors.

The big change this year to add the "Brew" part will surely be an improvement. Gilgamesh Brewing from Turner will be serving their award winning beer at the event. As far as local food goes, I hear Jonathan's and Willamette Burger Co. will be there. I'm looking forward to it and getting a chance to meet with foodie folks who read the site and introducing it to newcomers. Stay tuned to this site for more details.

Gilgamesh Brewing is excited to be part of the event this year! We know that people are working very hard to change this event to be one that defines Salem and we are looking forward to being part of that too. It has a lot of potential with all of the excellent restaurant options we have here, so it's great to see some of them are signing up. And we are very happy to see that you will be there too!

The entertainment lineup is awesome too! Now hopefully the word really gets out about these changes.

PS - thank you for the congrats on the Portland Monthly mention. Needless to say, we are ecstatic with how things are going so far and we can't express how fortunate we feel to have the local support that we have. Thanks to everyone!

Glad to hear about Gilgamesh being there! Now hopefully they have a few more beers there from people other than the big players otherwise it doesn't deserve the brew in the name.

Willamette Burger Co. will be there? Didn't they go out of business?

Yes, they did. While they may have had intentions to participate before their decision to close, I'm going to guess they will not be participating. SalemMan might want to edit that original post.
