Where Should We Eat Next

Tonight is our date night.
Where oh where should N and I go eat?

Is it time to revisit a restaurant?  Is there a particular place you're curious about?
Or maybe you have an entree suggestion for us at your favorite dining spot?

We've been clueless lately.  When that happens we seek the comfort of our favorite haunts.

Give us your ideas on where to eat dinner in Salem.

Ideas from comments so far:  Silver Grille, Creekside, Soy BBQ (closed), Church St. Pizza, Original Roadhouse, Red Ginger (last review 5/09), Star of India (last review 12/08), Christo's (last review 7/09),

What about The Original Roadhouse on Lancaster?

Red Ginger (Thai) in Keizer... Awesome owner/chef! And great foods! They will modify items however you like them! My new fave =o)

I understand some restaurant has moved into the old Elsinore Framing space next to the theater... who is it, and would it be worth investigating?

Star of India? I still don't know much about them, have been meaning to get out there..

Maybe Red Ginger in Keizer? Or pizza at Christo's?

How about expanding to the outskirts of downtown Salem and giving some places in Keizer, South Salem or West Salem a try? I agree with the above entry about trying the Original Roadhouse because I think their quality of food and service has reduced in the recent past and it would be nice to know if it really is so or just my perception.

As long as we're talking about farther afield---I've been very curious how the Silver Grille stacks up now that Jeff Nizlek is back at the helm. (Has anyone eaten there in the last year?)

If you're thinking South Salem, what about Creekside?

Our go-to for date night is to go to the SFNY (Owens and Commercial location) for pizza, caesar salad, and Ninkasi or Seven Brides beer. We drink beer and play cards or backgammon while we wait for the pizza and salad. Not very fancy, but a great date.

I would love a review on the new Soy BBQ restaurant downtown. I love sushi and have not yet found a location to get some worth eating!!

Wow! Some great ideas, keep them coming! Thank you! Soy BBQ sounds like a job for Vegan's Nightmare! VN?

How about Church ST Pizza?

Jeff, Which restaurant do you mean? I can't remember where Elsinore Framing was. Andaluz, Jonathan's or Capital Dog? I heard today that Andaluz finally secured their liquor license. Good news!

KandN,

I think Jeff may be referring to the new Jonathan's location. (New ownership also) I had lunch there last week. It's well worth looking into. It's a door or two north of the theater, 100 block of High ST SE.

Chuck, We ate at Jonathan's for date night 2 weeks ago. Great dinner! I was wondering which of the new places had taken over the old framing location!

I tried Soy BBQ when they first opened and they have pretty good food but were still getting organized. I figured I'd wait until they stabilize before going back and doing a review.
