First Wednesday

Salem Man Update 9:05pm
Just got back from 1st Wed. What a nice spring night to stroll around town. The coffee pictured here is Espresso Affogato from Napoleon's. A double shot of espresso over a scoop of gelato for a little pick me up. Looks like there are lots of new restaurants and such opening downtown.  Downstairs in the Reed Opera House I met the owner of the soon to be opened Belgian Sugar Waffles next to the Little Canolli. They're opening for business April 16th. Here's a picture I grabbed from their facebook. They tell me that they will be opening at 8am serving waffles that are sweet like donuts. This town just keeps getting better.

It sounds like First Wednesday is going to be full of fun activities all over downtown.  What a great way to welcome Spring!

There's going to be live music, art exhibits all over town, special drawings, a chance to check out Grand Openings in Reed Opera House, Soy BBQ and Wild Pear will be open for dinner, wine tastings at Grand Vines and Travel Salem and much more.  Click on the links at the end of the post for details.

The Elsinore will feature a 7 PM showing of "The Music Man", which has been restored in high definition to its original color and widescreen glory.  I understand that singing along is encouraged.

Prudence Uncorked is featuring a special dinner:
"First Wednesday for Family Building Blocks at Prudence Uncorked 5:00 to 9:00
It's a FIRST WEDNESDAY first! Wine and dine with Prudence this April’s First Wednesday, knowing 15% of the proceeds go directly to Family Building Blocks. This Salem organization invests in the children of our community by working to prevent child abuse and neglect. So stroll just one block “off-downtown” to Prudence Uncorked, where you'll find beer tastings, wine tastings, fab dinners, cocktails, and MORE to raise awareness and funds to help Salem’s kids. Visit the Prudence Uncorked Facebook page and check out our event tab for more info! 503-362-0888."

So much to do and see. The best part of First Wed is just walking the streets on a sunny evening.

And if NOAA is right, it's going to be a beautiful evening to soak up every minute!

Belgian Sugar Waffles had a booth at the Salem Saturday Market last year for the 1st time (I think). I'll bet they'll be at the market again this year. The waffles prepared on-site are prepared like, look like and taste like Waffle Haus waffles. Good stuff.

Thanks for the mention. BelgiQue Sugar Waffles will be open after we acquire our health dept. permits. We will be having our ribbon cutting ceremony on April 16th at 10:30 AM. Come on out and sample waffles, chocolate and have some coffee on us.

We did do the Saturday Market last year but will be concentrating on the new shop in the Reed for a while. Come out to see us at World Beat though.
