"Do I know you? You look familiar.", the waitress asked, after I had been seated at a table to wait for friend Shirley. I told her that I have one of those faces. People mistake me for someone else all the time. It's made for some interesting conversations over the years. Turns out that she used to work at Josey's restaurant and even though I've only eaten there 3 times, she remembered me. What a memory!
Sassy Onion is (usually) where Shirley and I meet for our breakfasts. I've coerced her into a new place from time to time, but only as a temporary detour to broaden our horizons. There were a couple of tempting items on Sassy's special seasonal menu. I struggled over the choice between the carnita skillet or the potato & bacon omelet. The omelet won. Shirley chose the "sweet potato pile".
Not only do I enjoy the brown, crispy exterior and moist inside of their hashbrowns, but their delicious bread, and carafe of rich coffee, too. My potato bacon omelet was a nice combination of homestyle flavors and melt in your mouth textures. Too bad it's a seasonal menu item! Shirley enjoyed the sweet and mild flavors from the onions and sweet potatoes in her sweet potato pile. She said the leftovers were even better than the first time.
I'm always amazed at the teamwork I witness while dining at Sassy Onion. The staff is constantly adjusting to the needs of the arriving diners: tables pushed together for groups or pulled apart to be bussed and prepped in the blink of an eye.
It's been quite awhile since I've dined there for lunch. The lunch menu has some tempting new seasonal items. I think it's time to find an opportunity and make a date for lunch.
