McGrath's Fish House

When is a blood date not a blood date?  When N and I write down the wrong day and don't find out until we walk into the Red Cross Cottage Street location at 5 PM and find one lone person working at a desk in the corner.  "Oh! You're the second ones to walk in on the wrong day!"

The good news was deciding on fish for dinner and finding out the price on McGrath's Halibut Parmesan is no longer twenty some dollars.  Oh Halibut Parmesan, how I've missed you!  The portion may have reflected the lower price, but since I'm not Paul Bunyan I didn't mind.  N chose to start off with a Petite Shrimp Louis for an additional $1.79, instead of the included green salad.  For his entree, N decided on the special of the evening--Dover sole stuffed with crab and shrimp covered with a cream sauce.

Since we had room and still needed consoling after the calendar mess-up, we shared a Marionberry dessert ala mode.  Thanks to our waitress, Jolene, for taking good care of us.  It's nice to sit across the table from one another and enjoy a relaxed meal.  Even if it wasn't an actual blood date.

Want to start your own blood date tradition?  If you've donated in the past, the Red Cross has made many improvements to their process over the past 2 years.   Most important (to me)-- it doesn't take as long.  :>)  We also appreciate their fixed location on Cottage Street, with hours that fit our schedules.  You can learn more here.

  1. Mom really appreciates the better blood donation setup too!

    And we love McGraths - the only time we had a problem was when a new waitress failed to open a bottle of wine, so I finished the job and the neck shattered in my hand - very small cut. The manager was very fast at bringing and opening a new bottle.

  2. I would hope that bottle would've been on the house and maybe dessert, too! That's crazy!

    Yes, I'm amazed at the improvements the Red Cross has made in past couple of years. So much better!

  3. I don't remember if it was on the house or not. That was back in the day when my ex and my Dad fought to pay the bill, so I never saw it. It's been awhile, so my memory is a bit fuzzy except for the feeling of the bottle shattering!

  5. Bend Oregon hwy 97 Mc Graths.I travel alot fore my job and have never cancelled an order before now worst experience in my life would recomend Mc Donalds first.TODD.

    I so miss McGrath's. We've never been to the Salem location but used to go to Bend all the time. Halibut Parmesan is my absolute favorite!
