  1. LOL minimum wage is 8.40 in oregon, its SO high!... I would like to see her live on minimum wage for a month. I am sorry, I sympathize with the small business owner, but if you can't afford to pay an employee, don't hire anyone. get off your butt and do the work.

  2. Minimum wage isn't supposed to be a living wage, it's supposed to be a TRAINING wage - or a wage for the unskilled and for teenagers.

But it's so high now nobody is willing to hire those people for those jobs unless they have no alternative.

  3. Jeff, I don't know if the law still exists today, but back in my fast food paycheck days I took a job working for two sisters who had just purchased an established deli. Due to a provision that allowed a special wage for struggling new small businesses, I was paid half the going hourly rate. What hurt was when the sisters celebrated their first successful year by taking their entire families (and they were big families) to Hawaii. Because, after all, their earnings were considered extra as both of their husbands were successful businessmen. It helped to foster the skeptic in me whenever I hear businesses complain about the minimum wage.

  4. Paying someone minimum wage always seems like a slap in the face to me. Like if they could pay you any less you know they would. I'm glad they are finally raising the federal minimum wage. Can you imagine trying to live on $5 or 6 an hour wage? That's under the poverty line.

  5. Obama needs a little more Bush in him? What a statement.

The irony here is that while no one wants to make minimum wage, the cost of all the goods we buy depends upon it. And when you buy inexpensive imported products, you are supporting economies that pay very small fractions of our minimum wage and keep people in much more abject forms of poverty.

    I'm just sayin'.
