Update: The downtown Super Pho closed due to family issues. You can still find them on 1630 Lancaster Dr NE Lancaster
There was no way it was open yet. Every blind was drawn, hiding scattered booths and haphazard interior decorating. The front door appeared to be half boarded up, but when I took a closer look i noticed it was a grass-skirt type decoration covering the lower half of the window. In spite of the effort to give this place a tropical feel, the boards leaning just inside the foyer gave off an unfinished vibe.
Maybe its a sign of the state of the economy or an investment in a bad contractor. Needless to say, none of us tasted the noodley goodness this place promised to offer. Hungry and slightly disappointed we turned around and headed toward the land of kitchy memorabilia, never ending fries, and big juicy burgers.

Bummer. Have you been to any other the Vietnamese restaurants in Salem?
ReplyDeleteyou should've gone next door to kyoto. we've been very happy with the food we've gotten there! would love to see it reviewed here!
ReplyDeleteHmmm. The only other "Pho" places in town that I know of are Kim Huong on Silverton Rd. and some little hole in the wall next to the Shutterbug at at Center and Liberty.
ReplyDeleteI've sorta been meaning to visit the second one... my wife isn't big on Asian cuisine, so I don't get to go to them much.
I'd like to see a review on the place at Liberty and Center next to Shutterbug.. I'd been meaning to ask if anyone here has eaten there. It's been there for at least 17 years, so it must be doing something right. I've never had Vietnamese food so I don't know what to ask for. :D
ReplyDeleteYa, I'm thinking I really need to try the place downtown next to Shutter bug. Everytime I've offered it as an option to my dining party, they just havn't been in the mood. I'll just have to find some people to go with me.
ReplyDeleteAnon: I think my problem with Kyoto is that it is over priced and takes so long to finish the meal. Thats fine for special occasions, but not really for everyday "I just don't feel like cooking tonight" meals.
Super Pho grand opening will be next week.. The 24 or 25.. I will update when i know for sure.. I see my nail tech this weekend and she knows them
ReplyDeleteSuper Pho grand opening will be June 23rd!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info...I look forward to trying this place out.
ReplyDeleteBe sure to try the House Fried Rice! Delicious!
ReplyDeleteI will have to try the fried rice then! Thanks Anon.! Hopefully I can get out there soon. Did any one try the Pho?
ReplyDeletethis resturant is great. go there everyday. love the food. they have the best food i ever taste from a viet resturant. you guys should go try it
ReplyDeletethe pho was every bit as good as the thai noodle soup we got hooked on in bangkok. we took up the house fried rice suggestion- WOW! loaded with unique ingredients- seared scallops, edamame, grilled pork. sweet and strong vietnamese coffee. we have tried bun cha (rice vermicelli with fresh lettuce, cukes, and grilled pork) at 3 restaurants now (kim huong, saigon and super pho) and this is the best. definitely delicious and definitely will return.
ReplyDeletewe went a week ago. it was ok, but we won't be going back. the restaurant seemed very dirty and with cleaning products, fish tank supplies, etc. sitting out. we were put in a booth that was next to a window that had large, very sharp holes in the frame that would've been a perfect place for my toddler to hurt herself on. the menu also was really lacking in any vegetarian options. had high hopes for this place, were very disappointed.
