Vicarious Diner Debut, 5p Tonight

Be sure to come back to this blog tonight before dinner to watch the Vicarious Diner as they Twitter from a Salem Oregon restaurant. This is the first, time to my knowledge, that this has ever been done in Salem and should be a lot of fun. You don't need to sign up for Twitter to enjoy the meal online. Just refresh your browser occasionally and click on the @replies(i.e. @eatsalem) to link to what a person has said. If you have Twitter, you can send messages to the Vicarious Diner as they eat there meal. Don't worry about butting in on their dinner, they're expecting your responses. To see what everyone is saying, follow the @replies and please be sure to follow the Vicarious Diner Twitter and the Eat Salem Twitter.   2. Wow, sounds indulgent! I live in West Salem but haven't been there. In these hard times my family couldn't afford it as I suppose many families can't right now w/ so many cut backs and layoffs. I suppose it is expensive enough for a special occasion. Was it a special occasion? How much was the bill (for 4 people I'm guessing)? I figured about $160 or so plus at least a 15% tip puts the bill at about $184?

    I went to their web site and was a little dismayed by their disclaimer;

    "Eight dollar corkage. Ten dollar split charge, Seventeen Percent gratuity on parties of six or more. Morton’s has been a non-smoking establishment since 1990. No separate checks. Gift certificates, meeting and banquet space available. Dietetic concerns as well as allergies are not received through mental telepathy...speak up. We do not allow substitutions."

  3. It was indulgent. We rarely do that. I'm sure we had one occasion or another that wasn't properly celebrated in the past several months. :>) Our initial thought was to get some of their small plates to share and enjoy, but ideas changed once we begin scanning the menu.
    Your estimate is very close to what the bill was. We split it in half between the two couples.

  4. I think its great to go to a nice place like that once in a while, especially in an economy like this. With all the bad news we hear day to day, its nice to have a good time and feel like everything is ok once and a while. I think Mortons would be great for Mother's day!

  5. Vicarious Diner lived up to it's name. You guys made me want to get out from behind this computer and join you. It was great to see how many people were following on twitter and how hungry you made all of us. We will have to do this again soon.
