Draws Large CrowdsApparently these crowds are making it difficult for a Bend Blogger to get a Burger at a new Sonic Drive In on Highway 97. The anonymous bendoregonrestaurant.blogspot.com guy finally made it to a car hop spot for a late dinner with his wife. What is it about this fast food chain that's caused Oregonians to lose their minds? At over $4 a gallon gas, people are idling in multiple lines just to reach a carport and be served through the car window. When it gets hot, and it does in Bend, windows will go up, A/Cs will be turned on, and fossil fuels will be burned. And all that mess from the ice filled cups, greasy wrappers and salty sides, piles up inside your car leaving you looking for a trash can. It's just a fast food restaurant. I know, it's shiny and new, like a new toy on Christmas morning, but over time, the chain closest to your house or on your way home from work will become the burger of choice once again.
i'm not sure if all sonics do, but some sonics use styrofoam containers and/or cups for serving -- what a horrible thing to do to our environment! add to the mess in your car a mess in our country.

ReplyDeleteI think Sonic's success at drawing crowds is a testament to their savvy use of advertising to build excitement. Every time I saw one of those fun, witty commercials, I wondered when would we ever get a Sonic. I understand it's not just Oregon. It's happening all over the U.S.

ReplyDeleteSure seems that way sometimes. Like those special loyalty cards businesses have us sign up for. Supposedly so we'll get lovely discounts, but all they really want to do is track our purchases and shopping habits.
Gives me the willies and yet, whatcha gonna do - besides refuse to sign-up?
Although, I will admit to enjoying the whole tracking thing of visitors to my blog . . .
Best post you've ever written!!! Cause it's sort of about me. You and I totally agree about Sonic. What a disappointment for all the hype. Gee, can't wait for that In and Out burger to show up, maybe Z21 will cover that.
