The Guest's Lounge

This place just opened on Fairgrounds Road and the food was absolutely wonderful! Huge portions and appeared to be homemade. The only drawback is the service was awfully slow. I think because things were made from scratch. We had the roast beef croissant, the chicken pasta and I had stromboli stuffed with cheese, sausage, pepperoni, green peppers and onions. It was served with a fresh homemade marinara sauce. Unfortunately, like you've mentioned in your earlier posts, they are not very busy yet, probably because they're brand new and the gas situation. Its not the best place to go on your lunch hour yet but I hope the service eventually matches up with the food.

Actually, it's a great place to go for lunch if you work nearby like I do. The owner is super nice and the food is good. Where else can you get a ham and swiss sandwich on a croissant with a mountain of fries for $3.95? Give 'em a try if you're in the neighborhood.

This sounds like a great place to try but I'll never go there since it's considered a bar and that means SMOKE!!

There is nothing more foul than trying to enjoy a bite to eat and being surrounded by cigarette smoke.

Isn't that supposed to change soon? I was thinking sometime this summer.

I can't wait for that law to take effect. I've lived in states that have that and it makes going out for a drink so much more enjoyable. Especially the next day when you wake up and you can still breathe.

I'm not a smoker, but am not so into bars being forced to go non smoking- anything that restricts individual rights is a slippery slope. If we're talking about family restaraurants that's one thing but bars are supposed to be a bit seedy and unhealthy-- that's the entire point.

January 2009, is the date the smoking ban will take effect. It'll be like a New Years resolution for the state.

Can you take your cigarette debate to a place designated as such? I wanted to know how the food was, not your thoughts on how smoking in bars makes sense to you.

I wasn't disappointed because I didn't expect much. I remembered this building and location as a family restaurant and had this image in my mind. It is now a dive bar (Not necessarily a bad thing. Some of my favorite places fit this category). They don't open on weekends until 1 PM. I drove in a couple of minutes early so I relaxed with a good book. About 1:05 PM the first employee arrived. I thought." Fish and Chips or anything else from the deep fryer will probably not be a good choice for the next hour or so." There was a sign advertising a Ham and Turkey sandwich for $3. For that price I decided to take a chance. I asked my server (and at that time, the only other person in the place) if a side salad was included. She said no, but she could make me one. I told her to never mind. Soon she brought me a sad looking, pre-packaged salad with brown edged lettuce and a squeeze bottle of ranch dressing. I separated out the edible parts, applied the dressing and went to work. I was imagining what my sandwich was going to look like. But to my amazement, it was really pretty good. I had nice turkey breast meat, ham, lettuce (much fresher than the salad) and a firm slice of tomato on toasted whole wheat bread. Far from a gourmet lunch, but adequate.

Note: They also offer the menu from Chan's Chinese restaurant which is right across the street. They must phone the order over and then trot the food across traffic to serve it. Interesting!
