Casey's Cafe

Great hot dogs, great home made fries, great atmosphere is what you'll find at Casey's Cafe on Court Street downtown. For mid week lunch, few places in town are as popular with the locals as Casey's. That's partly due to their location which is within walking distance from anywhere downtown including the capitol and partly due to the friendly service. Even with a large lunch crowd, by your second visit, it's likely they'll remember your face. And if you've eaten here once, it's certain you will be back for more. It's a small two story restaurant with order up front service. Usually I think of them for hot dogs but their menu also includes sausages, burgers, soups, salads and sandwiches. They call the Chicago Dog, "Best in Show." I agree. For $5 they load the 1/4 lb dog with mustard, relish, onions, tomatoes, pickles, cucumbers and a sports pepper. You take a bite into this and you can't help but daydream of an afternoon Cub game at Wrigley field. For an additional $1.75, order the home made fries, made fresh with the skins on. If I haven't said enough good things about Casey's I'll say that the 50's and 60's music selection fits the atmosphere perfectly. The walls are decorated with photos and posters of musicians and celebrities from that era. While you wait for them to call out your order take a look around there's some pretty cool stuff. It's a simple concept for lunch or dinner and based on the size of their business, it works.

WOW! I just ate there on Monday w/ a friend for lunch. I had never been before. I was pleased and will be back. I agree about the music. The speakers are very large too. All the pics on the walls are signed. The owner collected them over the years as he does catering at the Salem Armory and has met every single one of them. Only thing is the pics are so greased up w/ finger prints from customers touching them they could start their own crime lab!

Just like the sign says on the window.
Good food, Good times.

Casey is worth the price of a burger

I was there last week for the first time. I thought it was a great setting and the hamburger (double cheese) was really the best I've had in a long time as were the onion rings. I've worked in Salem for years, but lived elsewhere so that explains why I haven't been there before. I also make a point to visit cafe's where ever I go through-out the entire west. It is where I will go for a hamburger now. Doug

Being from Chicago and just having moved here 4 months ago, I can safely say we do not put cucumbers on our hot dogs. And where's the celery salt? At least there's no ketchup!
