La Perla Tapatia Opens Downtown

The Reed Opera House has a new second floor tenant, La Perla Tapatia Restaurante Y Taqueria. The $.99 tacos have moved from their south Commercial location to the much roomier downtown mall. The mezzanine level of the Reed Opera House has window seating and looks down into the retail tenants. I have yet to try it out because their former storefront wasn't kept up very nice. Hopefully this new location will work out better for them and their customers. If you've eaten there tell us how it is.

I went inside La Perla in the Reed Opera House and it seemed clean. I'm guessing the Commercial Street location was a temporary site so they didn't want to invest in real signs and landscaping. Let's hope they keep up there new spot.

We got take-out from La Perla last night for dinner and it was great! My husband had chicken taquitos, I had a chicken taco combo plate and our friend had a wet burrito and quesadilla. Everything was fresh and tasty, the chicken was actually tender and seasoned! Very resonably priced too! I will be back and I recommend it to anyone looking for more authentic Mexican food.

La Perla was FANTASTIC!! they have really authentic tacos and who can beat .99 cents? The view from the place was really nice too ( i love being able to watch the city below).

Excellent and cheap (for the tacos). Authentic. the fellow who runs it (owner?) is really friendly.

My wife and two daughters can eat there and spend less than $10.

Cool new location as well.

My boyfriend and I go here once a week. It is the most amazing mexican food we have had. It is authentic and delicious. We can both get two meals and only spend $11. The owner is extremely helpful and very nice. I recommend it to anyone who is looking for just a great place to eat and relax at a good price.

The food at La Perla is good, the prices are more than reasonable ($6 for dinner!) and it's one of the few places in the downtown area that realizes that people might want to actually go out to eat past 8pm. The only drawback is the service. While friendly enough, there only seems to ever to be one sever, and sometimes you can find yourself waiting 10 or 15 minutes before you're even hooked up with a menu or chips and salsa. I'd recommend that you call ahead with a to go order.

I ate there last week. The enchiladas were good--the sauce was different but yummy. The sauce for the fish tacos was too HOT! Couldn't even taste the fish. An no liquor license? I wanted a mexican beer with my dinner. Chips and salsa were good, but small portion for 2 people.

We ate there during the 2nd week of Feb and found it was.. well, maybe just good value for the money. The prices were very reasonable for the quality and amount of food. Best Mexican restaurant? Not be a long shot, if you are going for good food. Portions were small, flavors were dull, the service was kind of slow, based on the number of people seated. My wife had the fajitas and they were wanting in flavor and amount of food.

I had the enchiladas with beef and there were at least three bites of beef that was not chewable - I had to put them back on the plate. I'm sure a lot of people will enjoy this restaurant for the value, the view, the friendly wait staff and management, the unique surroundings and the reasonable prices.

Thier food was great! they have the best taco's in town, yes the service isn't that great, but thats only because they always have a lot of people!

The Last time I was there, they even had entertainment, She actually was very good, she reminded me of patsy cline. My wife and I really enjoyed it!

So if you haven't tired it yet, you are missing out!

BEST FISH TACOS IN TOWN. We ate there for lunch yesterday. The service was slow and they ran out of Tamales which I really wanted to try. (They have to be good if you can order them by the dozen) So I ordered a fish taco, a mainated pork taco and two steak tacos. My girlfriend got a fish taco, two steak tacos and a steak tostada. The steak was ok, I will order some other meat next time. The marinated pork was awesome and the fish tacos were perfect. Friendly service, and good atmosphere. I will be going back soon to try the other menu items and more FISH TACOS.

I will readily agree that La Perla has the best $1 tacos in town. If you want really excellent tacos though, spend a little bit more and go to J.R's taqueria or Salvador's Bakery.

I have been coming here since the first few days it was open back in the south commercial location. While I admit the old barbeque pit location probably wasn't the best location for them, their food has been amazing from the start. Their new position in the mezzanine level of the Opera House is ideal! Since their move I have noticed nothing but improvement in both taste, and consistency. The prices have remained reasonable and the staff is always pleasant (if not a bit busy during lunch and dinner rushes). One of my personal favorites is the fajitas platter. I can also recommend the tamales, absolutely delicious. I find myself here more and more often now that they offer free WiFi to customers, and have made use of their conference table for business lunches on multiple occasions. I would give La Perla 5 stars for my overall experience with them in the past two years I have been a patron.
