Busick Court

The restaurant that got national cable television exposure when Rachel Ray ate in Salem for forty dollars a day, is a great place to get your first meal of the day. Most everyone in town knows that Busick's on Court Street just west of Commercial is the place for breakfast, if you can get in. The menu includes eggs, pancakes, omelets, south of the border, and a selection called "Unique Breakfasts." The food all around is unique, the quality is very good, the portions are large and you leave with a memory of having eaten a good meal. Try the biscuits and gravy with eggs and two thick slices of bacon and you will see what I mean by large portions. There isn't anything on their menu over ten dollars including lunch. If you go on a weekend, expect a bit of a wait. The waiting area outside is covered with a couple of benches filled with hungry patrons. On a wall inside they have a plaque with a newspaper article about the famous Rachel Ray visit including her utensils. Sadly, a Salemite stole some of the celebrities silverware and left a space where her fork set. Since her visit, Rachel has gained even more success with her own syndicated show. Maybe now she spends a bit more than $40 a day for meals. When do you think she'll be back to Salem?

Busick's Court is awful. Go to Off Center Cafe. Better food.

After seeing her there, we thought we would try it. It has a down home feel, but the food is far from great, just too much, and the service was friendly, but not good. Sorry Rachel, you were wrong big time!

When my friend and I go out for breakfast, we usually choose Sassy Onion for the food, service and the thermos of great coffee on our table. We used to go to Busick Court, but despite the yummy breakfast dishes, the long wait outside and the crowded tables keep us from returning.

its true that the sassy onion is larger and less popular so it's always easy to get a table there. i prefer it to busick court just because i dont always have time to wait. busick is a bit kitschy for me anyways.... their food is good, but sassy onions is AMAZING. their french toast is like a mile thick. i feel that their service is a bit slow, but the food is worth it. their as-advertised "hot" omlette (i believe it's called the 911?) is actually HOT. luisiana sausage and pepperjack cheese that actually made me sweat. those guys arent kidding around! try the sassy onion for breakfast instead of busick.

My girlfriends have worked @ Busick for over 10 years. They have cockroaches and the head cook blows his nose, and picks his ears while manning the grill without washing his hands. Too many grossies to list. Totally overrated and not a "safe" place to eat.

I have ate at Sassy Onion and Busick court, They are ok but you can't beat Court St Dairy Lunch for breakfast. Just wish they were open on sat. or Sunday.

Food was BAD. Never going back.

Their clam chowder is the best I've ever had! It's even better than my Boston-raised grandmother's.

I ate there today and the food was disappointing. It certainly wasn't anything I'd recommend. The eggs and potatoes were burnt, something I could have done, and the food was unimpressive. Don't waste your time.

I have always liked the food here, but the wait to get in is not worth the food itself. I prefer to go to chads over by mission and 12th st. They have a real home feeling and there food is really good. Kind of one of those places where they get to know you and you kind of want to go back as often as you can.

Interesting comments. I've never eaten breakfast at Busick's, but lunch is always great. Not your run-of-the-mill combinations and the bread is wonderful. Yes, it's a lot of food but I usually take half the sandwich home. The food at Dairy Lunch is okay but boring.
