Best Hamburger

Where do you go to get your favorite hamburger in Salem? There aren't many good local choices. We don't even have a Burgerville. My favorite is The Ram, otherwise I'd rather stay home and barbecue. The burger in the picture is an Angus burger from Carl's Jr. It was pretty bad.

(be sure to check out the comments below for the latest thoughts on the best burger in Salem . . . )

  1. I'm not a huge burger fan.. And I'm somewhat embarrassed to say that the new McCruncher is pretty darn good..

Cheese, bacon, bbq sauce and those crunchy onions that you would put on green bean casserole.. pretty darm good for McD's

I guess Red Robins has decent burgers..

The Burger Basket on Mission st.. is not very good.. I've been there a couple of times and never seemed to get a good meal..

  3. I'm new to this site, so forgive me if I've missed a review of my favorite burger place, but if I'm hankering for a great grilled burger (toasted sesame seed bun, cheese that's actually melted), I head to Court St. Dairy Lunch.

  4. Although it's true that sometimes Burger Basket isn't very good, there are also times when it's very delicious!! I don't know what makes the difference...maybe they have different cooks.

  13. Although I can't say much for their beer, The Ram has fine burgers, with especially nice buns.

  16. Try the Willamette Valley Grille in the Red Lion Hotel on Market and Hawthorne: they have exceptional hamburgers. If you go there for happy hour, they have very inexpensive and delicious food as well. Also a very nice atmosphere and way better service than Thompson's or Boon's Treasury.

I will have to try Court St. Dairy Lunch; it sounds like a lot of people enjoy their burgers!

  18. Burger Basket is my favorite. Get the grilled onions. Wish it wasn't out on Mission. Not a great location for me, but the burgers and fries are excellent.

    Casey's is pretty good.

  21. The Willamette Burger Company has no peer in the Willamette Valley. Claim jumper’s (In Tualatin) Widow Maker is also very good. I can't imagine anybody being disappointed at either place.

  22. I'm partial to La Capitale's burgers.... made with local McK Ranch beef and tasty additions like fried eggs or a slab of brie cheese. They're always cooked just how we order and they're so juicy and flavorful! Also the fries are the best!

  23. I have two places I like to go for a really good burger and that is Willamette Burger Company or The Ram. We use to like the Burger Basket but lately they just haven't been that good.

  25. Anon, Here are my impressions of Five Guys from a visit in early June:

This is the new reining king of fast food burger places in Salem! I hung back briefly to observe how the other patrons were behaving and what they were having. I had been previously warned about the portion sizes. The fries looked wonderful but the counter lady said the regular order usually fed about three people. I decided to have a companion with me to try them. I ordered a small cheese burger with the works. ($4.09) It was fantastic. I arrived about 11:30 AM and the place was jumpin '. They had 14 people working and they were all busy. By the time I left there was a line out the door! The free peanuts are a great idea, but they were about grade 4, very dusty and low quality. Almost culls. I'm anxious to come back with my wife or a friend and attack the fries.

  26. Just had a burger at Cinebarre last night and it was great! Plus they have fresh, hand-cut fries that were very tasty too. If you don't want to watch a movie while you eat they have a large open lobby (free wi-fi too!) you can eat in.

If you like burgers and fries, you need to check it out.
